Saranagati/Canada book launch

10866943_10204802542199772_1012879711_nOn the occasion of the 3rd anniversary of Yamuna Devi’s departure, we held the Sanagati book launch/celebration last night. With Dina’s blessings, it was held at Banabehari Mandir, which magically maintains a mystique and spiritual atmosphere which evaporates whatever else comes through the door.

First of all, Rasaraja prabhu went a couple days in advance to arrange for electricity and heat there. Kalindi also helped by keeping the fire going over 2 days, and made the garlands.

The program was supposed to start at 6:30, and when I got there at 6:25, there were already several cars in the parking lot. The devotees were already sitting together, flash-lights on, ready and waiting. My first impression, and that of many, was how the entire community came, regardless of factions or interpersonal issues. There were a couple devotees I hadn’t seen in years, people from Ashcroft, and even Govinda Ghosh stayed for the whole program [not ordinary].It was a packed house!

10846807_10204802542679784_1158986012_nThe program began with an opening kirtan by Bhaktimarga Swami, who came from Vancouver for the event. Next, the Four Fourniers, also called the Milkmaids, beautifully led Kabe Habe Bolo, a bhajan sung many times at Banabehari Mandir. The mood was just like the ‘old days’, with the devotees serious and focused.

Next, we showed the same slideshow Dina showed in Chowpatty and Alachua, minus the Saranagati slides. I tried to repeat exactly what Dina had said. I also added photos of all the book events to date, and Radha Banbahari’s 39th Anniversary.

10847013_10204802542519780_1623675884_nThen, with an amazing Yamuna kirtan as a soundtrack, we showed a slideshow of Yamuna in Saranagati. After the pictures ended, the kirtan continued and the devotees offered rose petals to pictures of Yamuna and Radha Banabehari.

Then people came to receive their books. Practically every single one them had tears in their eyes. Our entire stock of books sold out.10877407_10204802542479779_1431471254_n 10881376_10204802541719760_1846159070_n

Ekadashi prasadam, of Yamuna-style mango-pomegranate whipped cream and coconut bars, chidwa and tea, arranged by the Fournier clan was served. Following tradition, we had to usher everyone out the door.

10863693_10204802541879764_492918684_nI want to send gratitude on behalf of the whole community to Dina especially and the rest of the team. People repeatedly expressed this.

Okay, pictures later.
